AYCF’s president, Shettima Yerima, has warned IPOB against peddling lies against him – Yerima also warned other ethnic groups who are bent on tarnishing his image to desist from it or be ready to face legal action – The human rights activist, however, noted that he would not be distracted from continuing to work with responsible groups to move the country forward
Mallam Shettima Yerima, the president, Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), has sent a warning message to some ethnic groups including Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) to stop peddling lies against him or be ready to face the full wrath of the law.
Shettima in a media statement issued on Saturday, June 5, said he and his group have been the targets of propaganda and lies put together by illegal and secessionist groups in the country to score cheap political points.
The AYCF leader lamented that the ethnic groups have been consistent in spreading lies and propaganda against him and his group in the past few months on social media. He cited instances where he was accused of making unpalatable remarks against Yoruba and Igbo people, saying that such stories were a red herring put together to destroy his popularity and acceptance among the progressive forces in the southern area of Nigeria.
“I have been singled out for attacks by Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), a racist and supremacist organisation that feeds on propaganda. There have been shameful lies told against me. “They claimed I threatened southeast governors over Almajiri. This is false. They claim I threatened Yoruba people. This is not true. There is a calculated attempt to set the north against the south by some warmongers. I am quite sure they will not succeed,” he said. Shetimma said he grew up in Lagos and Port Harcourt and that over the years he has been working with progressive groups across the country for a strong and united country where peace, liberty and justice reign supreme.
He said: “I urge Nigerians to ignore hate vendors and liars. I call on Nigerians to reject fake news and criminals who spread falsehood. These people represent agents of darkness. “With their fraudulent character, they can not even run a local government successfully if given the opportunity.”
Shetimma, however, said he would not be distracted from continuing to work with responsible groups and organisations across Nigeria that are ready to move the country to a greater level of honour and prosperity.
