Just like the Aba women riot of 1929 and Egba women of Abeokuta of 1946, that rose to challenge the obnoxious tax policy of colonialism and the repugnant behavior of the warrant chiefs/ traditional ruler, thus, the women of Benue North West Senatorial District; Gboko, Tarka, Buruku, Guma, Makurdi, Gwer East and Gwer West Local Government, where Senator George Akume, is representing at the Senate, have united to support the reelection of Gov. Samuel Ortom, Rt. Hon. Orker Jev and other candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)in the forth coming general elections, for the survival of the State.
The women who are armed with knowledge and conviction that Benue State is under siege and needs to be protected, are being united by the determination of Gov. Ortom, who has been standing by the people in the defense of Benue Valley. These women, no doubt, are motivated by the dignity of womanhood and are demanding for nothing but justice of their beloved ones, who were murdered by armed Fulani herdsmen.
The women frowned at the twist of narrative of the Benue Onslaught by some power crazed quislings in the State and threatened the taste of Benue women feminism, if PDP is not seen to be supported by the male folk. As mothers, they believe that they can persuasively get what they want, even if it requires asking their married and unmarried daughters to suspend every ‘adult activities’ as a protest for PDP to win, they will do it for the survival of Benue Valley.
Addressing the mammoth assemblage of women of various stratas, the wife of the Executive Governor of Benue State, Her Excellency Eunice Ortom Ph.D, thanked the women for their valour and resolution to support her husband, Gov. Ortom and other PDP candidates. According to the Eunice Ortom, this overwhelming turnout, is an indication of unity amongst the women in the State, which must not be taken for granted. She also, conveyed the appreciation of her husband over their prayers and support of the present administration. The wife of the Governor, further urged the women not relent in their support and also, appealed to the determined women to make good use of numbers to defend Benue by voting for PDP.
